Athena 101 · Lesson 08 · Make the deck in your template

In this lesson, you’ll make the weekly exceptions deck in Northwind’s template, ask for the views leadership reads, and check the totals before it goes out.Leadership expects the weekly deck in Northwind’s template, so start there. Create a presentation. Name it with the week, the way the team files it. Then switch Seed content to Template, and pick the corporate template. The layouts, fonts and colors come with it, so nothing needs reformatting later.Templates carry the look. House rules carry the team’s habits. On the Design tab, open Design Kit. Add the team’s rules to the brand prompt. Athena reads them every time it builds or edits these slides.Ask for the slides leadership actually reads: every exception, what got resolved this week, and the biggest variances. Tag the sheet and the memo, and ask for the source total on each slide, so the numbers can be checked. Athena builds the deck in the template while you watch. Each slide appears as it’s added, with Athena’s cursor working on the canvas. Before this goes to leadership, check the numbers against the source. Each slide names its range and total. Open the sheet, select that range, and compare. The deck is built from the sheet, but a person signs off on it. Then make it yours. Click a title, and type. Sam is reviewing slide three at the same time. Open that slide, and you can see what he has selected.Anyone outside Athena can have the deck as a PPTX file. Open File, and under Download, pick the PPTX option. Next week the files change, but the steps don’t. Once you’ve checked this deck, the chat that made it is ready to become a weekly AOP. That’s lesson thirteen.Quick check. Where do the deck’s house rules go? In the Design Kit’s brand prompt. Athena reads it on every build and edit. Here’s how a procurement team uses this. They send leadership the same update every week, from a shared contract sheet. They build it in the corporate template with the same three views each time, and check the totals against the sheet. Then they save the steps, so next week’s deck builds itself.Try it in your own workspace with this prompt. Look for a Slide added card for each slide, and a source range with its total on every slide.

Before you start

Upload these files from the Northwind starter kit: The sheet and memo in Checkpoints/Lesson 08, plus Northwind corporate template.pptx. A finished deck is also in that checkpoint folder. Save the uploaded corporate template as a presentation template so you can select it. Uploading alone does not save it in the template picker. If you cannot save a template, review the supplied deck and compare it with the source sheet. If teammate access is unavailable, review it yourself.

Steps

1

Start from the template

Create a presentation and give it a clear name. Choose Template under Seed content and select the saved company template.
2

Add the house rules

Open Design, then Design Kit. Add the writing and layout rules your team expects.
3

Ask for useful views

Mention the sheet and memo. Ask for slides covering all exceptions, resolved items, and items above your chosen threshold, with the source range and total on each slide.
4

Check and edit

Open the sheet and compare each slide total with its source. Edit titles by hand and review the deck with a teammate.
5

Export the deck

Open File, then Download, and choose PowerPoint (.pptx). Keep the checked conversation for the weekly procedure in lesson 13.
1-minute version: make a deck in your template.

Try it

Using @[your sheet], build a deck in @[your template]: one slide each for [view 1], [view 2] and [view 3]. At the bottom of each slide, give the source range and its total.
Look for a slide-added card for each slide and its source range and total.
