Athena 101 · Lesson 06 · Trace and fix one change

In this lesson, you’ll find out who changed a number in your sheet and why, then undo that one change while your team’s work stays. When a number looks wrong, you can see who changed it, when, and what it was before. Here, the All-in rate in H5 is higher than the rate sheet allows. Select the cell, open Activity, and choose Attribution. Type the cell, and run it. Every edit that touched H5 is listed. Here there’s one, by Athena, working for Jordan, when the All-in rate column was added. Now you know which change to look at.You can see exactly what Athena was asked, and what it used. Go to opens the conversation at the step that made the edit, and keeps your sheet open beside it. Right above it is the request that asked for it. Then open what Athena read. It took the fuel surcharge from last week’s tab. Now you know what to fix, and what to ask for next time. You can undo Athena’s mistake and keep everything your team did since. Sam fixed a carrier name after Athena’s edit, and that fix has to stay. So undo only the one edit. Choose Select changes to roll back, and tick only Athena’s row. Click Rollback, and confirm. The values Athena wrote are gone, and Sam’s fix in B7 is still there. Then ask Athena again, this time pointing at the week 41 surcharge. You can also put the whole sheet back to an earlier point, and still keep a way back to today. Open Version history and pick a version. Restoring replaces everything since then, including your team’s edits. Skip and Rollback goes straight back, and discards anything untagged. Tag First saves today’s sheet as a named version, then rolls back on its own. Today’s version stays in the list, so you can return to it. When in doubt, tag first.Quick check. Athena made a mistake, then Sam fixed something else. Which way of undoing keeps Sam’s fix? Select changes to roll back, and tick only Athena’s edit. Here’s how an audit team uses this. People and agents both edit their work papers. When a figure looks wrong, they trace the cell to the request behind it, and read what it used. Then they undo only that edit. Everyone else’s review work stays.Try it on a sheet Athena has edited. Look for who made the edit on the attribution card, and Go to opening the conversation beside your sheet.

Before you start

Upload these files from the Northwind starter kit: Both workbooks in Checkpoints/Lesson 06 and Northwind rate sheet.xlsx. Uploads do not bring edit history or saved conversations with them. Follow Workspace setup.txt to recreate edits in Athena before practicing attribution and rollback. Otherwise, compare the two workbooks and watch the history steps. Do not guess a replacement charge when the sources leave it unknown.

Steps

1

Find who changed the cell

Select the wrong cell, open Activity, and choose Attribution. Run the check and read who changed it and what changed.
2

Open the conversation

Click Go to to open the conversation behind the edit beside the sheet. Read the request and the source Athena used.
3

Undo one edit

Choose Select changes to roll back and tick only the mistaken edit. Click Rollback, confirm, and check that later teammate edits remain.
4

Restore a whole version

Open Version history when the whole sheet needs restoring. Tag First saves the current state before restoring; Skip & Rollback discards untagged changes, including later team edits.

Try it

In Activity, run Attribution on [cell], open the session behind the edit, and tell me what it used.
Look for the person behind the edit and Go to opening the conversation beside the sheet.
