# Automatic recharge

> Set a balance threshold and target so your saved card replenishes workspace credit

Automatic recharge charges your workspace's saved card when the prepaid balance reaches a threshold. It restores the balance to a target you choose. Use it to replenish credit without making each top-up yourself. You must be a workspace owner in an on-demand workspace on an Athena-managed cloud deployment.

  1. Open Workspace Settings
  2. Open Billing
  3. Choose an amount
  4. Confirm the top-up
  5. Turn on Auto-recharge
  6. Set trigger and target
  7. Save auto-recharge
</Accordion>

## Set up automatic recharge

1. Open **Workspace Settings**, then **Billing**.
2. Check **Payment method**. If no card is saved, complete a top-up first. A completed Stripe checkout saves the card for future charges.
3. In **Auto-recharge**, turn the switch on. Its label changes to **Enabled** and the two balance fields appear, filled with 10 and 50 by default.
4. Enter the trigger amount in **When balance falls below (\$)**.
5. Enter the target balance in **Recharge back up to (\$)**. This is the balance to restore, rather than a fixed payment amount.
6. Select **Save auto-recharge**. Review **Enable auto-recharge**. If your balance is at or below the threshold, the button reads **Enable & charge** with the amount instead, and confirming charges your card now. Confirm only after you check the threshold, target, and payment amount.

## Review the first charge

If your balance is already at or below the threshold, enabling automatic recharge can charge the card immediately. The confirmation shows **Current balance**, **Charged now**, and **Balance after**. A negative balance increases the amount needed to reach your target because the charge also covers what you owe.

If your balance is above the threshold, enabling automatic recharge does not charge you immediately. The saved card is charged when the balance reaches the configured threshold.

## Turn automatic recharge off

1. Return to **Billing** and find **Auto-recharge**.
2. Turn the switch off. Its label changes to **Disabled**.
3. Select **Save auto-recharge** to save the change.

## Limits

The threshold must be at least $5. The target must be at least $15 and at least \$10 above the threshold. You need a saved card and an active billing account to enable automatic recharge.

Removing the saved card turns automatic recharge off. A failed automatic recharge payment also disables it. Update the card and enable automatic recharge again after resolving the failure. A payment-related spending pause can prevent you from enabling it.
